  • AAAA - The first four digits is Federal Reserve routing symbol and it's represent the bank's physical location.

    • Within the 4 digits Federal Reserve Routing Symbol, the first two digits of the nine digits RTN must be in the ranges 00 through 12, 21 through 32, 61 through 72, or 80. The digits are assigned as mentioned below .

  • BB - Next two digits is designate which Federal Reserve bank the institution's electronic and wire transfers will route through.

  • C - Sixth digit indicates which Federal Reserve cheque processing center was initially assigned to the bank.

  • D - Seventh digit designates which Federal Reserve district the bank is in.

  • E - Last digit provides a checksum. The checksum is a complicated mathematical expression using the first eight digits.     An ABA number (also known as a routing number or routing transfer number) is a nine-character sequence used by banks to find specific financial institutions in the United States.


    History of ABA Routing Number

    The American Bankers Association created the ABA routing number in 1910. The ABA routing number has evolved over time to accommodate the Federal Reserve System, the introduction of MICR, the Expedited Funds Availability Act, and Check 21.

    An ABA number is required for wire transfers and electronic automatic clearing house (ACH) transactions such as

    The cheque digit is the routing number's ninth digit and must meet the following criteria.

    (Mod or modulo is the remainder of a division operation.)
