What exactly is a PIN code?
Postal Index Number, also known as a PIN code, is something that is typically found at the very end of any address that is completely spelled out in India. The Indian postal service, operated by India Post, uses a numeric code with six digits called a pin code.

India is divided into nine different postal zones, eight of which are regional zones, and one of which is a functional zone (for the Indian Army). Sorting District
When a PIN's first two digits and its third digit are added together, the result is a specific geographical region known as a sorting district (with the exception of the case where the third digit represents the functional zone for the Army).
